You Did What?

You attend an activity that you have no interest in, but it was something you got talked into by a friend and surprisingly, after some time engaging in the activity, you decide that you adore what you are doing.  Now, you would have never known the intensity of your enjoyment of the activity had your friend not said anything, which is fairly sad, right? You will never know what you love if you don’t try everything. So, my advice to you is get out there and live your life.  Do the things that you feel you may not even enjoy, just to try it once. The thing I hate the most is when people say they hate foods they have never tried, and this is kind of the same thing. How can you say you despise or just plain don’t enjoy activities, if you haven’t tried them?  The answer is, you don’t know. Another part of that is that you may not have enjoyed it as a child, but what if, you enjoy it as an adult? That happens too!

In the past few years, I have tried so many activities that I have wanted to try, but many that I had no idea I would enjoy, because friends talked me into it.  This has mostly been due to the fact that I have wanted to meet new people. I am in the process of finding my tribe. Have I been successful in that goal?

I am on my way.  Making progress little by little!

I can say beyond doubt that I never liked volleyball as a child.  Honestly I don’t feel that I had a good teacher. The coach seemed to have an ulterior motive, which didn’t include making his team better, only a few.  So, I was pleasantly surprised once I started league volleyball and I was good! That was super shocking! And on top of that, I loved it! So much so, that now, I will be starting again on January 3rd and again in May for sand volleyball.  I am super excited!

Before moving to Madison, I always wanted to try yoga.  Once I did, I fell in love. My favorite is hot yoga though, and I NEVER thought I would enjoy that at all.  I don’t want to be hot and I especially don’t want to be hot while working out. I was pleasantly surprised with the feeling I had after yoga at the best hot yoga studio in town, and I now have a membership because I love it!  But once again, I would have never known that had I not tried it.

That brings me to my most important questions.  What are some activities that you would love to try?  And, what are some activities that you may not have an instant reaction to, but that you may be willing to try?  Think of some activities your friends may enjoy, and may even agree to attend with you. That may give you the results you need.

Anyways, give that some thought!  And until next time, enjoy your day and the rest of the blog!  There are so many great topics to check out, not to brag or anything, but it’s good.  Make sure to let me know what you enjoy! So, I know what else to include in future posts.  Thanks!

  1. This is lovely! I have wanted to dedicate myself to writing every day---I made a promise in 2015 and have yet to fulfill it---maybe 2019 will be the year! I do feel that writing is self-care for me and being in practicum this spring and working at the Sexual Assault Recovery Program, I am in dire need of practicing a daily self-care. It's not something that I don't know if I will like...I love to write and I love to read and I love words---it's just about commitment!

    1. Thank you so much! Self-care is super important, and if writing is your thing, start slow and dedicate a small amount of time to it every day.
