Let's Start With A Cute Introduction

When you were a child, I’m guessing you dreamt of your future as an adult.  The plans for after grade school. Which college would be the most fun! And where you would learn the most useful information.  I’m guessing you even considered the schools that all of your friends or at least, most of your friends were attending. Then there were plans for after college, which consisted of landing an amazing job that uses all of that useful information you gained from college, meeting The One, falling in love, and having some children.  That sound about right?

Well, what happens when those plans don’t work out as expected?  What happens when you realize that there are factors that are out of your control?  Or factors that you didn’t even consider? Then what?

Most of us want the Happily Ever After, and I’m no different.  I have learned fairly quickly that wallowing in my own grief doesn’t get me anywhere and plans do not always go as expected. So instead of focusing on everything that isn’t working out in my favor, I try my hardest to focus more on what is going right.  Now, that can be trickier certain days, but for the most part, I do alright. It takes practice though.

How did my plan not go as expected?  I went to college….twice! The first time, I completed my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and Criminal Justice.  I landed a job with the state. It was repetitive, slow-paced most of the time, monotonous, and yet, dramatic, dangerous, and intense at times.  After I decided that I no longer wanted to do the same thing over and over again every day, I chose to go to graduate school. I was there for two years.  There wasn’t too much dating going on throughout that time, but I was doing very well in school and it showed. Before graduating, I landed a job. I was super excited to get started in the field!

I then chose to move to a city, which was a first for me.  I had always lived in small towns up to that point, but I thought by moving that I would have a better shot at accomplishing my goals and meeting someone.  I found a quaint apartment and for about a year, I was content there. Then I decided to look for a house. I found one and moved in.

Here is the rundown so far:
  • College x2    ✅
  • Job                ✅
  • House           ✅
  • Car (Oh yea, I didn’t write about this, but I totally bought a new car before moving to Madison)   ✅

The plan that was created when I was younger included all of these life goals, and at the same time, included a husband and children, two goals that have yet to manifest.

Make sure to stick around for the next post because I am going to divulge some sassy secrets.
